About Paradise Cakery…
Let me take a moment (or two) to introduce myself & my bakery! Paradise Cakery is a home boutique bakery owned & operated by me, Joanne Middleton. Baking has been my passion since I was very young, I remember poring over my Moms recipe books & dreaming that one day I would own a candy thermometer & a big fancy mixer. Although many things have taken my interest over the years, nothing else has taken hold of me like baking does. I love the challenge of finding new recipes & ideas, testing them & tweaking them to perfection. But what I love even more is the look on someone’s face when they taste one of my creations & love it.
Paradise Cakery specializes in classic & artisan sweet treats & baked goods using only the best ingredients. I use only real vanilla beans, paste & extracts, imported Dutch cocoa powder, fine chocolate & real creamery butter. Working with “real & quality” ingredients, for me is key to delivering a flavor in the finished product that has no equal and takes your sweet experience to a higher level.
So why an at home bakery instead of a retail bakery?!? The reasons are simple, by running my bakery from home I can provide sweet treats that are made to order, meaning the customer receives their order as fresh as fresh can be. I also get to work with the customer & their requests in finer detail without the distractions that come with running a retail enterprise. The other reason is that I get to tend to family life & be at home at the end of the school day.
Since moving back to Newfoundland from over 7 years in Amsterdam, taking inspiration from my travels to France, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, England, Ireland & Scotland, along with some quiet deliberation, with the encouragement of my family & friends, I decided to offer my sweet treats to you. Thus far Paradise Cakery has made my kitchen a very happy & busy place & I am thrilled to be doing what I love. A very big thank you to my darling husband (who is my biggest fan & my computer guru), my mom (for her recipes & baking advice – she worked in a bakery since she was 12), my dad (for buying me my first fancy mixer), my mother in law (who is a chef, & walking cookery encyclopedia – who has more knowledge of cookery than anyone I know) & my friends who kept telling me to open my own bakery & who were either willing or non-willing guinea pigs in my baking experiments.
I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes, albeit perhaps one of the most famous misquotes of all time, muttered by Marie Antoinette when she faced the masses. Upon hearing the peasants had nothing to eat she said, “Let them eat cake”. In my view, if cake is all we have then I think we are in a pretty darn good place.
Lots of sweetness & light,
Paradise Cakery specializes in classic artisan cakes and treats.
